President & CEO, Nexstar Network, Inc.

Jack Tester was the first employee of Nexstar, hired to bring the vision of the organization to life. During the organization’s first six years, Nexstar grew from a fledgling one-man shop to a highly respected, national organization with 270 members.

Jack left Nexstar for seven years.  During his absence he worked for a large, national plumbing, heating and cooling company in a variety of senior roles including acquisitions, sales and marketing, and operations.   His experience working in a national service business gave him an invaluable operational perspective that he brought to his role as the President & CEO of Nexstar.

Jack’s deep knowledge and expertise derives from having run a one-truck company and also a more than $500 million service company. This gives him a unique 360-degree perspective on leadership and growing successful businesses, which are discussed in his insightful book, On The Shoulders Of Giants.

Jack and Barbara, his wife of more than 30 years, reside in Minnesota. They have two adult children, Lauren and Brent. Jack is an avid outdoorsman who spends his free time flushing grouse behind his two springer spaniels, and wading in trout streams. On Sundays in the fall he enjoys cursing at his TV, thanks to a lifelong addiction to the Minnesota Vikings.

Another great maxim I’ve heard from a very successful Nexstar member is that he wanted his employees to “live as well as his customers.” I loved it then, and I love it even more today.
